Stephanie Jutt - Flute Master Class

Presence, artistry, and an irresistible energy have characterized the performances of flutist Stephanie Jutt ever since her highly acclaimed New York debut as first prize winner of the International Concert Artists Guild Awards. As winner of the International Pro Musicis Award, Ms. Jutt has been heard in recital around the world, including Paris, Freiburg, Rome, Munich, Lisbon, Bergen, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Boston, San Francisco, and New York. In Wisconsin, Jutt appeared in recital on the prestigious series, "Artists at the Pabst" in Milwaukee in 1994. As a winner of the New York Affiliate Artists Competition, Ms. Jutt has been in residence at University of Pennsylvania, University of Dayton, and numerous other American cities.

Stephanie Jutt has received major grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music. She has been a guest artist in the New York Philharmonic's "Prospective Encounters" new music series, performed with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and with the 92nd Street Y Orchestra. Appearances with American orchestras include the Boston Pops and the Brevard Festival Orchestra.

As a lifelong champion of new music, Ms. Jutt has performed many premiere performances, such as the first Madison performance of Gunther Schuller's Flute Concerto, which he conducted with the UW Symphony in Madison in 1992. Ms. Jutt performed the Christopher Rouse Flute Concerto with the Madison Symphony in 1997. In August 2001, Stephanie Jutt performed the premiere performance of David Maslanka's flute concerto at the National Flute Association annual conference in Dallas, Texas.

As a member of Gunther Schuller's New England Ragtime Ensemble, she has toured throughout Europe, the U. S., and the former USSR, and recorded for the Angel, Golden Crest, and GM labels. Her first solo recording was released on GM Records.

Ms. Jutt has been the flute professor on the music faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison since 1990, where she is principal flutist in the Madison Symphony and a member of the Wingra Woodwind Quintet. Ms. Jutt also served as professor of flute at Florida State University. She received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the New England Conservatory, where her teachers were Paula Robison and James Pappoutsakis. An additional year of intensive studies was completed in Vermont with Marcel Moyse.

Stephanie Jutt has served on the board of the National Flute Association and also as the program chair for its annual convention in Nashville in August 2004.
